University Relations Committee Shares ‘War Stories’ with Loyola Grads
By Bob Handler, Commercial Recovery Associates and David Bogetz, Burnham Capital Partners
The University Relations Committee, along with TMA graduates of Loyola’s law and graduate business schools, hosted a “war stories” panel discussion for Loyola University of Chicago’s Law School and Graduate School of Business students on November 13. The panel included David Bogetz, Bob Handler, Barbara Yong (a graduate of Loyola University’s School of Law), and David Enghauser (an MBA graduate of Loyola University’s Graduate School of Business) and introduced the students to the restructuring field and provided tips and recommendations for managing distressed businesses, including those in bankruptcy or in liquidation.
The panel—from private equity, asset-based finance, bankruptcy litigation, and turnaround restructuring—provided real world experiences to familiarize the students with the issues faced by all restructuring professionals, regardless of their undergraduate or graduate degrees. The panel also encouraged the students to utilize as many of their schools’ resources as possible, to remain open to new ideas, and to begin networking with their classmates in order to develop their own resources for their future careers.
The University Relations program seeks to educate students in law and graduate business schools about the turnaround and corporate restructuring fields. As part of the NextGen focus of TMA Global, the University Relations Committee reaches out to the local Midwest area graduate schools with panel discussions, case studies, and networking opportunities designed to showcase various career paths available within the turnaround and corporate renewal sectors.
The panel discussion was followed by an informal networking reception hosted by the University Relations Committee, which included TMA members Michael Ban, David Johnson, Margaret Bogenrief, Michael Brandess, and Thomas Wolford.
The University Relations Committee wishes to thank the Career Placement Offices of Loyola’s Quinlan School of Business and the Corboy School of Law for providing the space and reaching out to their students. We also are deeply indebted to Sue Fischer and Chris Glatz for coordinating this event with Loyola.
